Research and reference
Use the Library’s national documentary collection for research, reference and public knowledge.
Search the catalogue first where possible. Reference enquiries can ask about known items, subjects, sources, documentary history, access or research strategy.
The Library can help locate and interpret material in its collection but does not certify that every statement in a historical source is correct. Researchers should compare evidence, context and provenance.
For formal government archives and transferred public records, The National Archives is the archival institution. Havenstead Library preserves library and documentary collections rather than absorbing public-records custody.
